Fairview Ridges Hospital wins Top Award

HealthGrades, an independent health care ratings organization, has announced that Fairview Ridges Hospital has received the 2011 Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence™. This prestigious distinction places the Dakota County-based hospital among the top 5% of hospitals nationwide for clinical performance. This is a great honor as only 268 of 5,000 hospitals nationwide have received such an award.

The award is drawn from the just-released HealthGrades Hospital Quality and Clinical Excellence study, which identifies hospitals with the best overall clinical performance across all 26 medical diagnoses and procedures that the organization rates. Analysis is based on approximately 40 million Medicare discharges for the years 2007, 2008 and 2009. The HealthGrades study found that:

  • Distinguished Hospitals for Clinical Excellence (top 5% in the nation) such as Fairview Ridges outperformed all other hospitals across all of the 17 mortality cohorts and six of nine complication cohorts studied from 2007 through 2009.
  • Distinguished Hospitals for Clinical Excellence such as Fairview Ridges had a 29.82% lower risk-adjusted mortality rate and a 1.91% lower risk-adjusted in-hospital complication rate among Medicare patients compared to all other hospitals.
  • If all hospitals performed at this level, 158,684 Medicare lives could potentially have been saved and 3,511 Medicare in-hospital complications could potentially have been avoided.

In addition, Fairview Ridges is also being recognized by HealthGrades for excellence in a number of specialties:

  • Five-Star Rated for Treatment of Heart Attack for three consecutive years (2009-2011)
  • Five-Star Rated for Treatment of Heart Failure for two consecutive years (2010-2011)
  • Five-Star rated for Treatment of Stroke for three consecutive years (2009-2011)
  • Top 10% in the Nation for Treatment of Stroke for two consecutive years (2010-2011)
  • Top 5% in the Nation for Overall Pulmonary Services in 2011
  • Top 10% in the Nation for Overall GI Services in 2011
